Words and numbers count as units in space-separated languages. Han, Hiragana, Katakana, and Hangul characters count individually so unspaced content can still be measured. The result labels these collectively as text units.

How is estimated reading time calculated?

The tool divides total text units by the reading speed you enter. The default is 225 units per minute, but you should adjust it for the language, audience, content difficulty, and reading context.

Why might the sentence count differ from an editor?

Sentence counting uses common ending punctuation, including periods, question marks, exclamation marks, and CJK equivalents. Abbreviations, decimal numbers, headings, and unusual punctuation can produce a different estimate.

Can I count text from HTML?

Yes. Select HTML source to analyze extracted visible text while excluding script, style, template, and noscript content. Complex embedded components can still require a manual review.

Is the content I paste uploaded or saved?
